I’m Sandi Martin, a Certified Nutritional Therapy Consultant and 21-Day Sugar Detox Coach. I also a wife and a mom to two amazing little girls.
My health journey started after I graduated college when I was really tired of constantly being on a diet and feeling like I was always counting calories and not enjoying the food I was eating. I knew there had to be a better way to nourish my body without deprivation and guilt. I also couldn’t go more than 2 hours without eating, I would get hangry if meals were delayed and dizzy if I skipped a meal. I thought this was totally normal and it wasn’t until later that I realized my imbalanced blood sugar was causing all of these symptoms.
Over the years I have tried many different diets. I started out as a vegan, which taught me the importance of knowing where my food comes and why we should choose local and properly raised animals. I eventually moved on to learn about Weston A. Price and Sally Fallon which taught me about the importance of traditionally prepared food and how our modern processing of certain foods is causing them to be more harmful to our bodies. Then the last diet that I followed was the Paleo diet which brought so many delicious recipes and pretty amazing people into my life.
I no longer label how I eat any more because I eat foods that work for me, which is a pretty freeing feeling. I also no longer get hangry between meals and I don’t need to snack every couple of hours, which has allowed me more peace in general around food.
I eventually wanted to know more about how the body works and how to bring different systems into balance, like digestion and blood sugar, which is where my training at the Nutritional Therapy Association comes in. This training was amazing and I highly recommend it. I learned about the importance of a whole food, nutrient dense diet and we learned about 5 foundations and how to bring them back into balance: Digestion, Blood Sugar, Fatty Acids, Mineral Balance and Hydration.
